Hello all and welcome back to another episode of Snatched and Gathered. A bi-weekly (whenever I feel like it) event about books that have snatched my edges and gathered my soul. Today I bring you three fantastic books that you need to quickly put on your tbr list. Without further ado in no specific order here are the books.
The first book is Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia. If you’re a big fan of Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl I highly recommend you read this book. Personally, I love this book more than Fangirl and I’m a big fan of Fangirl but there’s something about the main character that I related to better than Cath. Eliza and her Monsters touch on the topic of anxiety/depression as well as the world of fanfiction and webcomics.
Not to mention there’s a little bit of romance that I found endearing and cute. It didn’t take center stage which I love and it felt organic to me. Eliza and her Monsters come out May 30th.
The next book is a deliciously fun and creeptastic read. I never expect to be a bit freaked out by an middle grade book but author Ellen Oh hits all the spooky meter points in her newest book Spirit Hunters.
Ya’ll I talking about evil little boys haunting houses and possessing folks bodies. On top of that there’s a mystery on whether or not a creepy old man found a way to live forever.
While short and predictable (I’m an adult) this will be a great and fun read for your tweens. Spirit Hunters comes out July 25
The last book is a rollicking good time. I’m talking about The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. You know the book that the whole of twitter is talking about. Well I was lucky enough to be approved and I’m so happy I was because this is a damn good book.
Monty is a lovable bastard that in love with his best friend Percy who happens to be biracial in a time where black and brown folks weren’t welcome. Well black and brown folks don’t seem to welcome now but I digress. Anyways I love the care and research the author put into Percy. He’s not some sidekick/romantic interest. Nope, he’s quick to put Monty in his place and tell him about his privileged ass when he fucks up. Plus, Felicity is a feisty little firecracker that I hope to see more of. Please let there be another book or novella. I need it in my life. So prepare for rocking good time with highway men and a band of pirates.
P.S. I wish there was a tad bit more romance between Monty and Percy but I get it. Add this book to your tbr. A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue comes out June 27th
