Diverse Reads, Must Read, Own Voices, Random Post, Snatched and Gathered, We Need Diverse Books

Hello lovelies and welcome to Snatched and Gathered. A monthly (maybe bi-weekly) post about the books that have completely captivated me and left a deep imprint in my mind. Or has I would like to say snatched my edges and gathered my soul.

THE HATE U GIVE, CREATYVEBOOKS.COM, TOPIC, DISCUSSION POSTSOne such book is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. You literally have to be living under a rock without Wi-Fi to not know about this book. It’s everywhere. And I do mean EVERYWHERE! The hype surrounding T.H.U.G. is rightly justified. Seriously, this should be required reading in high school.

Inspired by Black Lives Matters it follows the point of view of Starr who witness the death of her best friend at the hands of the police. With rich writing and such a strong and powerful voice from Starr, readers will get an inside look at what it means to navigate in a society that doesn’t want you simply because of the color of your skin.

Beyond the exploration of racism in America, The Hate U Give also shows the significance of BLACK LOVE. It was so good to see family, community love and friendship show in a powerful and enlightening way within the black community. I can’t recommend this book enough. Pre-order it. Demand your library stock this book because you need to read it ASAP.

There’s not much I can say because this book has left me utterly speechless. My words will not do the justice When the Moon Was Ours rightly deserves. Just know I cried, sighed out in frustration and fangirled at all the little happy moments that take place in this stunning and enchanting book.

Although, When the Moon Was Ours is magical realism, don’t let that stop you from reading the story of Miel and Sam and their beautiful and “strange” relationship. Read about them claiming their gender and body. Claiming their name and identity. It’s pure fucking magic and I just love it to bits.

I make not be an expert when it comes to the Transgender community but I highly recommend this book. Not only is it POC-lead but I also love the support Miel and Sam get as they try to find out who they are.

It’s just as captivating and adventurous as the first. This time around Nix is at the helm of the Temptation trying desperately to change her fate as she learns that her best friend and the boy she’s grown to love might be lost to her forever.

With mind-blowing world building get ready to set sail on an adventure of a lifetime. Meet new characters and fall back in love with the crew of the Temptation, while getting all the feels from the epic swooniness that we all crave. I can’t recommend this series enough. So do yourself a favor and preorder, demand your library carry this book because you will not be disappointed. The Girl From Everywhere and The Ship Beyond Time are books you need in your life.

So there you have it. Three books that have snatched my hairline and gathered my ever-loving soul. Pray this Miracle Growth work because I have a feeling more books will do the same.
