Yes waste my time in 2016 is in full effect because I swear every damn highly anticipated read I’ve gotten my hands on has been a total letdown. Queen of Hearts is no exception. Look I’m too old for my blood pressure to be this high from reading rage-induced bullshit. I’m tired of annoying heroines and sub-par storylines.
I was promised excitement and adventure, instead we get a dry ass book with no plot and forgettable characters. Thank goodness this book was short as hell. Or maybe not. Cause to be honest nothing was every resolved. Maybe a longer book would have worked better. Maybe we would have gotten more character development and sustains to this bland ass book. Maybe would have gotten some world-building. Like have authors forgotten that part when writing? Whatever the case may be I didn’t like this book.
Here’s a quick summary of what this book is all about:
Dinah—The main character pretty much has a shitty childhood. Her father is an asshole and she is unloved. Yet she is a spoil brat that is annoying as fuck. Can’t stand the bitch. Yeah I said the b-word. Sue me. I mean she is supposed to be the Queen of Hearts. Sorry but the author did a disservice with this character. It could have been so much more. Instead she was seen as a whiny, moping mess of a teenage girl.
Plot—I honestly don’t know. Somewhat of an Alice in Wonderland retelling but not with the normal characters that you are used to. I sorta like that twist. That’s about it. Other than that I don’t remember what I read. It’s non-existent.
Romance—It was one-sided in my opinion and it didn’t add anything to the nothing plot. Although it was limited it shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Or it should have been developed more. Either way I didn’t care for it. It was a waste of writing and pages that could have been used to create world-building. Yes I’m back at that again.
In my honest opinion I can’t recommend this book to anyone. Not even those of you love anything Alice in Wonderland related. This book will disappoint you greatly. The Queen of Hearts is nothing more than glorify fanfiction. The bad kind. #SorrynotSorry
