Title: Keeper (book 1)

Series: The Morphid Chronicles

Paperback: 372 pages

Publisher: PenDreams (July 1, 2014)

Rating: 5 stars

Greg Papilio both wants and dreads his impending metamorphosis. He’s tired of being an ugly runt–always picked last on the basketball court–when he could be strong and what girls call “drop dead gorgeous.” But as much as he looks forward to the transformation, he also fears the caste it will inevitably assign to him. He doesn’t want a common caste. He wants a powerful one, a cool one.
Samantha Gibson is average. She’s short and a little full around the hips–a terribly cute look for a future chef. She’s two years away from culinary school, from her uncaring parents, and from carving a perfectly Human future. She wants independence, a career and a quiet life of her own.
Except fate couldn’t care less about what Greg and Samantha want and gives them exactly the opposite. Greg’s metamorphosis assigns him a caste that enslaves him, while Samantha’s chance to attend Le Cordon Bleu is taken away. But things are never as interesting as when Ashby–an intriguing blonde with a hidden identity–enters her life with a splash.
Greg’s fate is to be Samantha’s Keeper, to protect her at a time when someone wants her dead. He will stop at nothing to ensure her safety, even if her secret past proves deadly, even if he’s keeping her safe for someone else.

My love for author Ingrid Seymour writing is fucking huge. I mean I’m so happy I got the pleasure of connecting with her via social media. If not I would not have known anything about her kick ass books. One being, Ignite the Shadows (review here). Which you guys know that I freaking love. Seriously, if you’re looking for a fast-paced urban fantasy thriller, Ignite the Shadows is the book for you. I highly recommend you pick up a copy and read it damnit.

Okay now that I got that plug out of the way I need to get something off my chest and tell ya’ll about yourselves. Cause you all are sleeping on my girl Ingrid Seymour. Did you know that she has a new book out called Ripper? I bet you didn’t. Well if you don’t know it’s the second book in The Morphid Chronicles. The first being Keeper. Which by the way is a fantastic and unique coming of age story, set in an urban-fantasy setting.

This book is fucking amazing. An enjoyable YA that grabs you from the beginning to the very end. I mean not too far in the book you see Greg one of three of the POVs that switch throughout this book going through a metamorphosis. Greg is a Keeper. It’s like some sort of guardian and his job is to protect Sam who is also Morphid but of a different caste.

Maybe if his Human side didn’t crave her just as much as his Keeper nature did, he could have resisted.

If you can’t tell you know there is going to be some tension and sparks will fly but too bad she is destined to be with Ashby. Fuck it him. That’s all I’m going to say about him because I can stand his condescending, arrogant ass. Yes there is a love triangle that I could have did without but it wasn’t bad so that is a great.

Beyond that this book is a must read. There’s action, romance, and some lovable characters and memorable villains. I talking about you Veridan.  Plus I like the different take on what it means to transition slowly from a teenager into adulthood. So if you’re looking for something a little different in the YA spectrum, I highly recommend this series and any other book by Ingrid Seymour.

*I received a signed copy from the author and that in no way influence my rating. These opinions are my own.

  1. Have you read Ripper yet? I’m about 40-ish pages from being done. I’m a little torn on if it’s just as good as Keeper, though. And I’m definitely checking out Ignite the Shadows eventually. It sounds really good.

    1. No I haven’t but I plan on reading over the Memorial Day Weekend. I hope it’s as good as Keeper. I don’t want to be disappointed. Also I hope Ashby dies. You can tell me if he does lol.

Yes definitely check out Ignite the Shadows.

      1. Haha! No, I won’t ruin it for you. But, yes – Ashby sucks. The first chapter he was intro’d in Keeper I was like “I don’t like this douchebag,” and haven’t liked him since, lol. You’ll like the ending of Ripper (sorta), I think. I don’t want to give it all away, lol.
