Book Review, Thoughts, Thoughts & Opinions

I feel like I’ve been complaining a lot about the book community but it can’t be help. I’ve only been a part of the community for a year and some change but I can see the difference that has happened in such a short time.

When I first started this whole book blogging thing, everything seem copacetic. Everyone was supporting each other. Everyone seem to get along well. Maybe that was just a façade because as of late people have become real bitches. I mean I can’t go a day without looking at my twitter timeline to see some shit has gone down. What’s worse is that many of these conflicts are between grown ass adult.

Personally, I have not been involved in any of this because I don’t have the time to argue with people over the inter-web. I know books are your life but Goddamn it’s not that serious to get all in your feelings about a fictional character or whatever nonsense people be arguing about these days.

Secondly, and this is just my opinion but I feel nowadays you have to kiss major ass. I feel has a blogger you pretty much have to do what everyone else is doing. Be in love and fangirl about all the same books. All the damn time. If not your blog ain’t worth shit. No matter how hard you try to be different and unique with your content.

At the same time it’s like everybody is fighting for the affection for all the major authors out there. And I don’t care what anybody says, some of these big time bloggers are shady as hell. They will smile in your face one minute but be stabbing you in the back. And don’t bother asking who I’m talking about I just observe these things via social media.

I’ve come to learn that book blogging is a fierce and competitive hobby and if you don’t have thick skin and are aggressive and ambitious to success, this community will eat you alive. There is a dark side to all this. You may think its all fun and games until you’re knee deep in shit, trying to keep up with all the arcs and reviews that you have to do. And don’t let the review be negative cause there have been times that authors have attacked and vilify a blogger. Which is fucked since they have some many followers and influence among their fanbase. Like be professional and get the fuck out your feelings.

Anyways, this is just something I wanted to get off my chest. It mostly a bunch of rambling but at least I got to say what I needed to say.

Before I go, let me reiterate that this is my opinion. I still love the book community but I know for sure that we as a whole have to do better. Cause believe it or not most of us find comfort here. It’s our safe place. A place to be who you are and talk to other people about the things you love. Which happens to be books.

  1. OK, I laughed my backside off at this! Yes, I have had my head ripped off by authors who have thought I should give their poorly edited, poorly written books glowing reviews. Well, pay attention to your work and maybe I would be able to! But I have met some authors who bring me joy beyond belief, so it washes out. And making an ass of themselves doesn’t help them – but it does give me something to make fun of….. (oops, I didn’t say that out loud, did I?)

I just do what I do. If someone doesn’t like it, well, that is their opinion and they are welcome to it. I don’t agree with others opinions sometimes, sometimes I do. It won’t stop me from writing what I like. The people who like my reviews, like my reviews. Nuff’ said.

And yes, I am BURIED in books to read! LOL

    1. OMG, I just love your comments. They get me all the time. Your honesty is refreshing. Something that is lacking nowadays.

Yes exactly, I don’t understand this not being able to have an opinion before you’re attacked by authors or members of their fandom. I thought the book community was supposed to be warm and welcoming but I guess every community has a few bad apples.

You think you will ever get to those books? LOL

Thanks for stopping by and reading.
