When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin-one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.
As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.
Perfect for fans of Kristen Cashore and George R. R. Martin, this first book in a sexy and action-packed new series is impossible to put down!
Before I began this review I will like to warn my followers that this will be explicit with cussing. I know I’m intelligent enough not use them but…..FUCK IT. This book has me feeling all kinds of ways and sometimes using a cuss word is needed. Also a little ratchetness might come into play. I warned you now let the review commence.
The Court of Thorn and Roses is the shit. Point. Blank. And the Period. Yes I went Tamar Braxton on yall. But it’s the truth. Sarah J. Maas did her thing with this book. I literally couldn’t put it down. SJ Maas brought SEXYBACK. This book was sensual without being too explicit or pornographic. Just the right amount of spice to get you aroused in your….well you know where. I said I would be ratchet not freaky…lol.
Anyways, Sarah J Maas did something I didn’t think could be done—mixing fantasy and New Adult. Mind you NA is not my thing but if Miss Maas keeps bringing out the hits like this, I might need to get a new shelf. My goodness the way she weaved elements of magic and romance with the Beauty and the Beast retelling, was UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. Especially, since romance isn’t my thing. No I’m not a cold-heart bitch. Just don’t do the whole love thingy.
I might have to rethink my stance on this because that Tamlin is one fine ass man. Aggressive and manly in all the right ways. Don’t believe me,get the book. I’m sure you will feel the same way. Plus I loved the relationship that developed between Feyre and Tamlin. It was a slow burn that build and build until it shattered in a wild frenzy of heat and passion.
Seriously, I haven’t read a book where the main characters were phenomenal as well as the side characters. Feyre was strong, willful, vulnerable and above all loyalty. Although she was illerate she was smart in her own way. She was a well fleshed out character. One of the best female characters that I’ve come across in writing in a long time. Tamlin, the sexy beast was broody, tender, aggressive and such a great protector. So complex that you couldn’t help but to love him in all of his complexities.
Lucien (Tamlin’s right hand man/best friend) was annoying yet charming in his own special way. You can tell there is a tender side to him but it’s bury deep with pain. So he uses jokes to cover it up. You need to read the book to understand why that is. I seriously hope for more story line with him in the next installment. He deserves a happy ending.
What the fuck. I just went all OUAT on you.
Now Rhys was an insufferable jackass that I wanted to beat the hell out of. He was deliciously evil that you couldn’t help but to like him in all of his badness. I hope he gets the ass-kicking he deserves in book two. Because that MFer needs a wakeup call. I’m sure there is a reason or two for the way that he is but I still can’t see him having his happy ending. Not yet. He has to redeem himself in my eyes before I forgive him for the things that he did in the book.
Tamlin you better eat you Wheaties and do those pushups because you’re going to need it. Especially with that whole…well….the thing…..and that whole situation with…..sorry I don’t want to spoil it.
So deliciously good it would be wrong and downright evil to spoil such an amazing and well thought out book. In the words of Beyonce: “BOW DOWN BITCHES”.
Sarah J. Mass did that.
So to all my fantasy loving followers, if you’re looking for breathtaking world-building, a beautiful and sensual retelling of Beauty and the Beast mixed with the right amount of action please pick up this book. It will give you life.
SO FUCKING GOOD!
*Sidenote: The only thing that made me eye roll was the ending. I mean that riddle was so easy to answer but I guess there needed to be some sort of obstacle before everything went happily ever after…..sort 😉
P.S. That is the only time I will ever use anything related to Twilight.
