Reality is only an illusion.
Except for those who can control it…
Worst. Birthday. Ever.
My first boyfriend dumped me – happy birthday, Josie!- my dad is who knows where, I have some weird virus that makes me want to hurl, and now my ex is licking another girl’s tonsils. Oh, and I’m officially the same age as my brother was when he died. Yeah, today is about as fun-filled as the swamps of Dagobah. But then weird things start happening…
Like I make something materialize just by thinking about it.
When hot badass Reid Wentworth shows up on a motorcycle, everything changes. Like, everything. Who I am. My family. What really happened to my brother. Existence. I am Oculi, and I have the ability to change reality with my thoughts. Now Reid, in all his hotness, is charged with guiding and protecting me as I begin learning how to bend reality. And he’s the only thing standing between me and the secret organization that wants me dead…

There two types of Oculi. The Pushers and The Retracters. Then there’s Josie. The Anomaly.
I’m really glad I took the chance with Anomaly by Tonya Kuper. Thank you YA Book Tours. When I first heard and laid eyes on Anomaly I was like “No, this isn’t the type of book that I want to read”. Thank goodness I was wrong because this was a fast thrilling ride. Okay, not that fast. In the beginning it starts off a tad bit slow but that because you’re learning all about what an Anomaly is and what they can do and why they are so rare. Also, the Consortium wants them all dead.
Meet Josie—the not so typical teenage girl. She’s hella smart. Big Bang Theory, Sheldon Cooper smart. She is just more sociable and less weird. Anyway she is having. The. Worse. Birthday. Ever. Her boyfriend broke up with her. Her dad is MIA and on top of that she just found out that she has these amazing abilities that unfortunately can get her killed. Nobody wants somebody with that much power walking around.
Too make a long story short, Josie must learn to use her powers and protect the ones she loves while trying to take down the Consortium, with the help of the Oh. So. Hot. Reid/Callum. He happens to be an Anomaly just like Josie and he is also her best friend from long ago. There is a reason why he was MIA for so long. You just have to read the book.
Told from two character perspective—Josie and Reid, Anomaly will leave you breathless and dying for more. Yes there are some things that irked about the book: like the whole Josie is WAY stronger than everybody else. Or rather than the ‘average’ Anomaly. I get that she is all powerful but I just hate how fast she develops her skills. Also some of the senseless arguments between Josie and Reid. I guess this was the author’s way of building tension between the two love interests but it just made me roll my eyes.
Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely and I can’t wait for the second one to come out. Tonya Kuper has found a fan in me.
